The Pet Resort at Haslet & Little Leaf Animal Hospital

Size: 7,633 SF | Location: Haslet, Texas

Designed for Dr. Louisa Martin and Des Whittall, this 7,633 SF facility is a premier example of dual-concept architectural strategy. By housing both Little Leaf Animal Hospital and The Pet Resort at Haslet under one roof, TMA-FW created a destination that balances high-performance medical care with a low-stress, “sanctuary-style” environment for boarding and grooming.

The hallmark of this project is its commitment to animal health through advanced environmental design.

  • The Natural Ventilation Tower: We engineered an eco-friendly “chimney” system that utilizes the stack effect to provide constant fresh air. Unlike traditional recirculating HVAC systems, this tower pulls stale air and odors out of the building naturally. Read more here: Haslet Pet Resort Air Flow
  • Olfactory & Pathogen Control: This constant air exchange is critical for reducing the spread of airborne pathogens and neutralizing “stress scents” (pheromones), ensuring a calmer experience for anxious patients and a healthier environment for long-term boarders.

Strategic Patient-Centered Layout

The floor plan manage both staff needs and the complex sensory needs of different species:

  • Medical Precision: The clinical wing features three exam rooms, a dedicated X-ray suite, and a state-of-the-art surgery center optimized for workflow efficiency and patient monitoring.
  • Stress Reduction: To mitigate fear, anxiety, and stress, the design provides auditory and visual separation between the high-energy dog play areas and the quiet feline and “pocket pet” (bunny/guinea pig) wards.
  • Indoor/Outdoor Connectivity: The resort includes climate-controlled interior play areas for large and small breeds, ensuring exercise and socialization can happen safely year-round, regardless of the Texas heat.

Materials & Timeless Durability

We selected a palette that reflects the professionalism of a medical clinic while maintaining a welcoming, residential-inspired aesthetic:

  • Exterior: A durable blend of natural stone, siding, and stucco feels both professional and residential, welcoming clients and their pets into a calming environment.
  • Interior Security: Inside, we prioritized non-slip surfaces and non-reflective finishes to help pets feel “grounded” and secure while moving through the space.

The Result

Completed in 2016, this facility remains a benchmark for intentional veterinary architecture. By prioritizing the sensory experience of the animal—sound, smell, and sight—TMA-FW delivered a space that supports clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and the emotional well-being of every guest.
